Lyn and I have had so many exciting things come into existence over the last couple of months that I literally have to sit down to tell you about just a few of them.  At the end of last month Lyn felt the desire to leave her current work place and dedicate herself fully to Tarot and healing work.  Though I was a bit nervous I gave her my full support to go with her heart and it is amazing what happened.

A List of just a few of the most recent blessings:

* Opportunities to speak and share are opening both on one to one and group levels in private and large organisations.

* We have spoken at a community centre about both hypnotherapy and EFT healing and had a fantastic response (we are in fact going back to do some more work with interested parties).

* We are never without Tarot counseling to do.  Our web and face to face client base has more than doubled.

* We are in the process of putting together various conferences (both mystical and therapeutic).

* We have been blessed with a growing number of Reiki clients.

* The best and most recent gift from the Universe is that last week we discovered that Lyn is pregnant!!

For all of these things we are eternally grateful to the Universe.  We feel that none of it would have come into being had we not gone with our intuition.

All I can say is that the Universe provides more than we need in miraculous ways when we get out of the way and follow the call.

Namaste,

TemperanceI’m a collector, a Tarot addict as you know, and I’ve just stumbled onto the beautiful Llewellyn Tarot deck. The first image that caught my eye was that of Temperance or as titled here ‘Keeper of the Well’.

For me Temperance is one of those cards that usually doesn’t pull much of a punch in readings. It’s important, it has a message to give but it just doesn’t seem to have the same clout as Death or the Devil for example.

Temperance isn’t even a word we use much any more in our every day language. What does it really mean anyway?

According to dictionary.com it means the following:

1. Moderation or self-restraint in action; self control.
2. Habitual moderation in the indulgence of a natural appetite or passion, esp. in the use of alcoholic liquors.
3. Total abstinence from alcoholic liquors.

This definition got me thinking…. is self control really valid in our modern society?

We can pretty much do as we want these days. We spend what we want whether we have it to spend or not; we eat what we like; we drink what we like; we smoke; we work incredibly long hours. We’re wild, we’re uncontrollable, we’re out to have a good time.

With all of this freedom why would we want to show any kind of self-restraint? We’re having fun, right?

Well actually, perhaps we’re not.

If we balanced out a little we could possibly find what’s missing in our lives. If we saved a little money each month we might feel financially secure instead of dreading the bills. Perhaps if we ate healthily some of the time we wouldn’t be an obese nation. If we didn’t drink quite so much perhaps we’d learn to cope better with life. If we cut back on some of our working hours we might find joy again in our families.

Maybe, just maybe, with a little temperance in our lives we can become happy.

And that message from Temperance is probably the hardest hitting of all.

I decided I wanted the Halloween Tarot several years back.

I ordered it from Amazon and it never came. It was all of a sudden out of stock.

I went into London and went to all the metaphysical shops I know. They were all out of stock too.

Eventually, about a year later, I found a lone Halloween deck tucked on a shelf in a bookshop. And it was mine.

It is basically a Rider Waite clone with all the characters dressed in ghoulish attire. The suits have been appropriately renamed – we have:

  • Imps (wands)
  • Ghosts (cups)
  • Pumpkins (pentacles)
  • Bats (swords)

Halloween TarotIt’s such a fun deck. Kipling West, the creator and artist, makes the whole deck come alive (excuse the pun!). The artwork is cute, the colours bold and not dreary or dark plus the symbolism of Rider Waite is still there.

For those of you who wish Halloween would come more than once a year consider this deck as your next purchase!!

I love Tarot decks.

It’s not just the fact that, with my intuition, they can unlock the secrets of my soul. I love the artwork and the artist’s interpretation of the cards. I could spend hours just looking at Tarot cards and watching the worlds reveal themselves in front of me. A Tarot deck can become my trusted friend and companion.

And yet there are some decks which I just don’t bond with.

One of these decks is the Thoth.

Try as I might,  the Thoth deck and I can’t seem to become anything more than a brief acquaintance.  I pick it up, I put it back down.

I collect Tarot decks and I view the Thoth as a must have for any collector or student of the Tarot.  But I still don’t want to read with it.

If you’re about to pick your first Tarot deck make sure you bond with it.  Look on the web and find pictures of the cards or visit your local metaphysical shop where you can get the deck out and have a good look.  Pay no attention to what other people tell you – go for the deck which is right for you.

When you bond with your deck the world of Tarot opens up easily and secrets are unveiled right before your eyes!

I’m a Pisces and I love the creative aspects that I’ve inherited from my birth sign. I am intuitive, kind, considerate and creative.

However, I also have to work on the spin side of my sign – I withdraw, I become depressed and gloomy. The weight of the world lands on my shoulders and I feel it pressing me down.

Time and time again I draw a significator for myself and it’s the Queen of Wands. Why is the Tarot poking fun at me I ask??

This cheerful dynamic go-getter queen bustling with energy and confidence – who me?

So what do you do when your significator is nothing like you see yourself?

The answer is simple – you embrace it.

The wonderful Joan Bunning has these words of wisdom on the Queen of Wands:

‘In readings, the Queen of Wands asks you to think and feel as she does. For example: Do you feel attractive? Do you believe in yourself? Are you full of energy? Can you shake off the blues? Are you gung ho about life?’

The Queen of Wands, for me, is who I aspire to be everyday. She is the antidote to my water qualities and it’s my task to balance the fire/water polarity.

So, what’s your significator and is it truly how you see yourself? Or perhaps like me you have to work at it?

The thing about the Bad Boys of Tarot (Death, The Tower, The Devil, 3 of Swords, 9 of Swords & 10 of Swords) is that they give the immediate response of ‘oh, look at all the terrible things that are going to happen to me’. Ok, sometimes this reaction is valid because life doesn’t always run to plan and unexpected things happen.

However, with the Devil you should be asking ‘what terrible things am I doing to myself?’ or ‘what have I done to get myself into this situation?.

The Devil

When the Devil appears in a reading it isn’t so much as a case of possession (although never say never!!) but rather than you’ve got yourself in a situation and only you can get out of it.

In most Tarot decks, the image shows a man and a woman bound to the Devil. However, if you look closely the chains are easy to free – the 2 people remain where they are through their own choice.

The Tarot bad boys mean upheaval of some sorts and human nature never reacts kindly to duress. The Devil means confronting your own demons and freeing yourself. You can’t let someone else do it for you… you’re on your own with this one!

If you get the Devil in a reading, ask yourself what you are afraid of, where you are stagnating and what you are tied to. Then ask yourslef why. Why can’t you get a new job, lover, house etc? Why do you insist in over eating, excess alcohol or drugs? What is stopping you being free?

When you finally admit that you own the problem then you can begin to release the chains of the Devil and finally exorcise the gremlins that stop you leading a fabulous life.

Most days I can prattle away about anything and everything but today I’m blog lost for words.  I’ve been working on my new Tarot correspondence course (which I’ve finished btw) and I feel too tired to blog.

However, help is at hand.  I’ve turned to my trusted Universal Waite deck for inspiration.  This is my deck I used when I was working for a Tarot telephone line – it’s brighter than the Rider Waite but still filled with the symbology and familiarity.  Like an old friend with a new hairdo!

Anyway, my card of inspiration is the Five of Cups.  This is one of those cards which you can instantly identify with when you’re in one of those ‘poor me’ moods.  All you can see is what’s been destroyed or lost from an upheaval, usually of the emotional kind.

Five of Cups

See, the tricky thing with this card is that when these moods hit it is feels impossible to turn around and still see the good things remaining. If you take a look at the card you can see there is a bridge to get home and two perfectly good cups still standing.

As a healer I see clients all the time who can’t bring themselves to look at what they’ve got in life and insist on clinging to the loses of the past.  Life’s too short!  We all take hits but to dwell on them is to miss out of the chance to grow and move up the Tarot ladder to the blissful 10 of Cups.  Remember you’re only a few cards away!

If I had to write about the last 24 hours with using only three Tarot cards then I can sum it up quite nicely with the above.

My son Daniel shut his finger in a door and lost the finger nail and tip.  As this was a Sunday afternoon we had planned to play games, go to the park and cook as a family.

Drum roll for card number one…… 2 of Pentacles.  Everything up in the air and plans needed to be redrawn as a trip to hospital was needed.

A visit to A&E is never the most pleasant of experiences so I tried my best to have a serene expression of patience like the Hanged Man.  There was a lot of waiting and hanging around.

Eventually the doctor decided that as no bones were broken he could do no more than refer us to another hospital with a specialist in plastic surgery.  We had an appointment for 10.30 this morning.  More waiting.

The specialist was running late for our appointment by 1 and a half hours so we had to sit in A&E again waiting for our time to come up.  We saw him and he sent Daniel for another x-ray….then we saw the doctor again.

Luckily Daniel didn’t need to have an operation as it will heal on it’s own minus the finger nail.  So he’s bandaged and a little dented like the 9 of Wands but lives to fight on another day (and hopefully he’s wiser about messing around with doors with his brother!!).

I can hear people such in a deep breath and look mortified whenever the Death card appears in a spread.  Then the panic sets in and the question ‘am I going to die’ springs to their lips.

The media has not helped the hysteria surrounding this card and I believe it is partly why people are scared of the Tarot.  As a Tarot Reader, it’s important that I set the facts straight with my clients.

Ok, first Death can mean death.  It’s inevitable and will happen to each and everyone of us someday.  However, that is the most extreme meaning and looking at it from a logical perspective, it is not very likely that it does foretell the Grim Reaper’s visit.

The Death card indicates a change.  A change which is coming whether you like it or not but not in the drastic, stressful way that the Tower predicts.

Change is something that scares the living daylights (no pun intended) out of most people but when they can look back with hindsight at the period in their life when the change occured they can see it happended for a reason and the change brought new rewards.

So, next time the Death card comes up in your reading, don’t go into a panic.  Ask yourself what areas of your life need changing (or are changing) and how you can benefit  from the different circumstances it will bring about.

Remember, Death doesn’t have to be grim ;-)

My husband and I are not only Tarot readers but we’ve also been hit with the collecting bug.  I believe we have around 65 Tarot decks plus probably 40 or so oracle decks.  Currently we are waiting for the Da Vinci Enigma Tarot to arrive in the post.

So should you stop collecting when you reach a certain number?  Should you stop when you find the ‘one’ (that perfect deck)?  Or should you never collect at all?

Even though I have so many decks to choose from I find myself drawn time and time again to certain decks.  I love my Universal Rider Waite as a good standard deck for anything.  The Pagan Tarot, I use when I want to have modern day images to work with my intuition.  When I work on missing persons or object cases I usually reach for the Witches Tarot.  When I work with my husband on family issues we use either Robin Wood or the DruidCraft.  And when I want a giggle I pull out the Halloween deck.

Since I began collecting I’ve been on a quest for the perfect deck.  I thought I’d found it several times but there is always something that doesn’t keep me satisfied for long and I’m off again looking for ‘the one’.  I know I’m not going to find it until I create my very own deck (and even then who’s to say I won’t want to improve it lol).

I can’t stop collecting Tarot decks even if some of them stay hidden at the bottom of boxes.  There is something about each one I own that draws me in some way – usually the artwork.

I know I can never own just one deck and I know I’m never going to be cured of this card obsession.  And honestly, I like it like that :-)
